@stephmurrayyyy Class plays a huge role. Probably similar in the UK. Covid mitigation efforts and covid worry look very different among upper class, middle class and lower class groups.

@9Carey @Keggs719 We cannot let this mask = virtue narrative stand. It will destroy communities. You could have stopped and said, “you know who else wears masks? Bank robbers and women oppressed by fundamentalist religions.”

@TheEliKlein It’s not the end of covid, but it should be the end of mask & vaccine mandates and vaccine passports. There are strong arguments as to why those should have ended months ago/never started, but there are no arguments for why they should continue when case rates return to baseline.

@DavidInMaryland @downi75 I would say the same for a prior home of ours, but truth be told there were much bigger issues to focus on (structural) and, in hindsight, it makes me happy that we changed the energy in that house with many happy little kid years there.

@HotlineJosh Those numbers are in spite of a massive joint Trump-media effort to prop Trump up as leader of the GOP. Love to see it failing, and don’t forget… some of that 36% is just trying to stick it to despises pollsters e/ no intention of actually voting for Trump.

@realist_ron @ordatcsteve @NBSaphierMD All schools have relatively low rates of covid transmission, regardless of whether masks are mandated or optional. These observational studies don’t support the conclusion that school masking is more useful than harmful & the few RCTs that have been done are less than compelling.

@AttorneyLkn @NBSaphierMD We’ve been lying to kids that masks “keep you safe” for years, so of course they will think removing masks is “unsafe.” Also, masks allow teens to hide their faces, which is a comfort in times of insecurity. It’s understandable many teens don’t want to give that up.

@Popehat We really need to stop the “risking her life” drama over minor differences of opinion. Whether a vaxxed/boosted person wears a mask around other vaxxed/boosted people is inconsequential. Masks provide such a small benefit compared to other mitigations. It’s not worth the strife.

@esaagar @JohnsHopkins This would be an easy answer if people weren’t so hung up on prestige degrees. Demand tuition refund (file suit if they refuse) and transfer to a school that doesn’t require boosters. Hopkins students are barely allowed out of their rooms. What kind of college experience is that?

@Mrs_Wld_History @VirginiaPTA Yes, middle & upper class students have done well historically. Their learning loss was significant, but they have support to recover. Lower income children are now 3,4,5 years behind grade level. Many older students just stopped going to school. A victory lap would be premature.

@Sunflower8649 That said, I agree it’s super dumb that so many people seem to believe they would’ve been much sicker or died w/out the vax. Also dumb how people declared themselves omicron or delta based on the severity of their symptoms, as if sequencing is unnecessary to know that.

@CaseyMattox_ @varadmehta Even smarter to retire before Mitch McConnell gets control of the Senate again.

@farewelltoeart1 @redmage_mari @mominnocal @jcschmieder @MZHemingway I am busy and don’t like going from store to store or having to wait til the next day when the truck arrives. As I said, this is an inconvenience. It’s annoying. But, nobody is going hungry.

@redmage_mari @mominnocal @jcschmieder @MZHemingway It’s not scarcity when you can go to another store and buy the things.

@mominnocal @jcschmieder @MZHemingway It’s not panic buying. It’s saving yourself the hassle of having to search for food among empty shelves again next week. This is inconvenience, not scarcity.

@MZHemingway Son, yesterday: “Mom, why did you buy so much food?” Me: “Because it was on the shelf.”

@mkhammer For anyone struggling with the “it doesn’t work unless everyone does it” mindset, I give you the VIrginia covid case chart for masks mandated Dec 21-Jan 22, which demonstrates that it doesn’t work *even when* everyone does it. Make your own choice & leave others alone!

@RachelNNP121 @TameTomcat @jrpsaki @AlexDanvers2017 @GlennYoungkin @APSVirginia Did you read this article? It’s about teacher shortages because the teachers tested positive *over break*. Household contacts & parties are where most people get covid. Getting back to work & school is safer, masks or no masks.

@RachelNNP121 @jrpsaki @AlexDanvers2017 @GlennYoungkin @APSVirginia That’s baloney. Many states and districts don’t have mask mandates and they’ve been open in person since Sept 2020. DC/MD/VA is an outlier on closings/mask mandates and- newsflash- our policies have not prevented seasonal covid spikes.

@ChristinaPushaw @billscher Cases have already peaked in MD/DC/VA, so case numbers will be lower regardless. Will MD (school mandate) be lower than VA (no school mandate) in March? I, for one, am looking forward to the data.

@notaproviderMD It’s the only reasonable explanation. There’s no other reason to do it. They have to be losing students.

@ScoLatham The $70K/yr degrees are status symbols. The last 2 years have demonstrated that it’s not the education or the experience.

@maggieNYT A lot of Trump’s 20-25% left Twitter with him, leaving us post-Trump Republicans here with few reminders of those still hanging on. Out of sight, out of mind. It’s glorious and I for one am going to enjoy it for as long as it lasts.
